Highlighting technique has long pressed traditional head coloring. Most women prefer to change hair color, hide gray hair, visually increase the volume, give the effect of naturalness with a gentle method of dyeing the strands. But sometimes this procedure alone is not enough. Strands of hair after highlighting become ugly yellow, especially among brunettes, sometimes look dry and lifeless. In this case, apply toning hair after highlighting.

It is better to choose a master for the simultaneous carrying out of these two procedures according to the recommendations of friends or acquaintances in order to protect oneself in case of a dishonest hairdresser and the use of a poor-quality tonic - without nutritional supplements.

The choice of means for toning: paint Estel and others

The technique of toning is so simple that most women prefer to tone their hair after highlighting on their own. In the case of home tinting, it is better to be safe and wait a few days after highlighting. This gap will allow the bleached strands to rest and recover, as in the composition of the bleaching paint in any case includes an aggressive agent.

Toning hair after highlighting at home

Toning of streaked hair should be carried out by specially designated means, with the words “for toning”. They do not contain ammonia and hydrogen peroxide, so the hair will not suffer as much as it does from permanent paint. Tinting products are available in the form:

  1. Tonic,
  2. Shampoo
  3. Spray
  4. Crema.

Priority should be given to those funds, which include nutrients. As a rule, such tonics are much more expensive.

When choosing a budget option, you need to remember that in this case you will need enhanced additional care: nourishing masks, herbal rinses.

It is desirable that all caring and decorative cosmetics (balsams, shampoos, mousses) should be as gentle as possible and be marked “for colored hair”.

Why toning is better than painting

Usually means for tinting hair after highlighting does not contain aggressive substances and does not destroy the structure of the hair. Thanks to this gentle coloring hair long retain a lively shine.

It is convenient to use the tonic for the target party - the most extravagant color will quickly wash off (within 1 week). Do not have to repaint the hair or awake others unusual color hairstyles in everyday life.

Two procedures — highlighting with shading — will do much less harm than one full staining. Therefore, modern women increasingly prefer toning of streaked locks.

Types of highlighting

There are a lot of variations of highlighting. There are various types this procedure: Brazilian, American, Californian, Melange, Hollywood and others.

  • Classic. The coloring composition is applied along the entire length of the curls, while strands can be made both narrow and wide. The thinner the strand, the smaller the contrast will be.
  • Zonal. When choosing this technique, only the upper part of the hair is exposed to the chemical composition. This method is well suited to owners of thin hair, or those who are not sure that highlighting will suit them. The advantage of this method is that you can easily return to your natural color. A minus - in order that the clarified locks were visible, parting must always be done in the same place.
  • Normal and gentle. With ordinary highlighting, the clarification can reach complete removal of the pigment, and with gentle paints, ammonia-free paints are used, so clarification occurs only by 2–3 tones.
  • Reverse highlighting. This technique is used on light strands using dark shades.

Why do I need to tint curls?

Highlighting for several seasons in a row does not go out of fashion. Thanks to this method of dyeing, the strands become soft whitewhich favorably emphasizes natural beauty and individuality.

But not always the results of highlighting on light brown hair can please their mistress - strands get an unpleasant dirty yellow shade. There are several reasons for this “side effect” after highlighting:

  1. The use of low-quality hair dye - most often the effect of yellowness is given by the cheapest products sold in regular stores.
  2. Incorrect selection of coloring pigment - without experience and skills to make the right choice is difficult.
  3. Violation of the stages of highlighting - The paint on the hair must be “kept” for a certain amount of time. If you overdo the product on the strands, the paint will give a yellow tint.
  4. The use of substandard water - when flushing, chlorinated tap water reacts with paint. The result is a dirty shade. It is recommended to use filtered or bottled water at the end of the procedure.

Toning blond hair after highlighting is a great way to get rid of an unpleasant dirty yellow shade. Colorists call this procedure careful staining or color correction. Thanks to her, the curls get a neat look with a deep beautiful color.

  • Intensive - paint belongs to the semi-permanent class. Its composition contains a small amount of oxidizing agent, which allows you to keep color for 4-6 weeks.

Few people want to go like that all their lives, but when to try something like this, not in the midst of a trend.

The most desirable for girls who decide to become blondes is a cold Scandinavian blonde. But it is the hardest thing to do, since most girls have red pigment in their hair, which is very difficult to etch. Therefore, for inept masters, the blonding is obtained with a yellow tinge.

What is toning and can I do it on melirovanny hair?

Toning - a procedure that allows you to give the desired shade of hair. This is a gentle staining method. This procedure visually increases the amount of hair. After toning the strands become shiny. It can be applied to all women. The only exception is the presence of gray hair. In this case, toning will not bring the desired result.

It is possible to combine highlighting and toning of hair. As a result, it will be possible to improve the color of the strands, transform the hair, making it neat and well-groomed. If, after highlighting, the colored areas contrast sharply with the main color of the curls, toning will correct this effect, making the transitions softer and shades less contrasting.

Immediately after the partial staining of the strands, you should not begin toning if your hair is loose. It is important to remember that both procedures are stress for the hair. Therefore, you must first wait a few days until the hair is restored. If they are greatly weakened after partial dyeing, a course of recovery will be required using masks and other means to care for the colored strands. Otherwise, damaged strands will not be able to accept the pigment, and the desired result will not be achieved.

Toning is a more gentle procedure than highlighting. The change of color in this case is a physical process. The internal structure of the hair is not affected. Therefore, the harm from such a procedure is minimal. After applying the coloring composition, the pigment is fixed on the upper (outer) part of the hair. Many tinting products available on the market have a regenerating effect and healing properties for hair. They contain nutrients and moisturizing ingredients.

Hair tinting, as the final procedure after highlighting

In many salons, toning is done as a final procedure after partial staining (clarification) of the strands. As a result of highlighting, sharp drops of colors may form. The toning procedure allows you to:

  • reduce the contrast of shades,
  • eliminate unwanted yellowness,
  • visually add extra volume to the hair,
  • make your hair more “lively” and natural,
  • give your hair an attractive shine
  • make the color more saturated
  • improve hair structure.

To tint the hair after highlighting does not further damage the curls, it is important to correctly set the frequency of this procedure. It is better that the periodicity is set by the master. By itself, the procedure of toning, as well as highlighting the hair, is quite simple. Therefore, each girl will be able to do such staining, without resorting to the services of a master.

Is it possible to do toning immediately after partial dyeing? If your hair is healthy and strong, and ammonia-free dyes were used for highlighting, you can tint the strands without waiting for several days. In this case, it will be possible to get another shade without a sharp contrast with a difference of 1 to 3 tones. For such staining apply a weak concentration of the oxidizing agent (only 1.5%).

How to tint the hair after highlighting?

There are 3 types of such a procedure:

For easy to use, apply tinted shampoos or special sprays. Such products are safe for hair, but they are quickly washed out. It is enough to wash the hair several times to return the shades that turned out after highlighting.

Longer effect is provided when choosing a gentle toning. Special paints are used for this procedure. Duration of effect 2-4 weeks. After intensive toning effect will last up to two months. For this procedure, special paints are also used, which do not contain aggressive components. Intensive toning allows you to drastically change the color of the hair. It should be chosen in the event that after highlighting you were not satisfied with the resulting color of your strands.

Paint for toning

The best option for the last two types of toning - semi-permanent paints. In their composition there is keratin, which helps to restore damaged areas of hair after highlighting. These paints can be purchased at a specialty store. Compared with shampoo or mousse, using paint has several advantages:

  • Provided lasting color
  • it is possible to drastically change the shade
  • some dyes can even paint over gray hair,
  • effective for dark hair
  • Suitable for any type of hair.

Of the disadvantages of the use of paint is to provide a relatively high cost. In addition, it is better to use tinting paint under the control of an experienced master. Otherwise there is a chance to get shades of ashen and even violet color on the clarified strands. Dyes for intensive toning can spoil the hair, because their use after highlighting is a double stress for hair.

It is important to choose a quality paint to achieve the desired result. Pay attention to such products:

  • Igora Vibrance,
  • Goldwell colorance
  • Wella Color Touch,
  • Wella Color Touch Sunlights,
  • BES Regal Soft Color.

Toning shampoos, mousses and cream-gels

As for the use of shampoos (balms, mousses or cream-gels) for correcting the color of the strands, they also have some advantages. Such toning agents are easy to use. They are cheaper than semi-permanent paints. Shampoos, mousses or gels are safe for hair, as they do not destroy keratin. They contain nourishing and moisturizing ingredients.

However, using shampoos will not be able to drastically change the shade. They are quickly washed out. If you have more than 40% gray hair, the use of these tinting tools will be ineffective. In addition, in some cases there is the likelihood of staining or uneven staining after applying the shampoo.

In order to get the right shade after using such tools, choose quality products, for example:

  • Kydra sweet color,
  • Schwarzkopf Professional Igora Color Gloss (toning cream gel),
  • Syoss Color Refresher,
  • EStel Solo Ton,
  • Wella Viva.

If you are looking for a more budget option for such a product, pay attention to Tonic balm (Rocolor). This tint balm is inferior to professional products for color fastness, but it allows you to experiment more often with the color of your hair without harm to your hair.

Highlighting dark hair with toning

There are many highlighting techniques that are suitable for brightening dark strands. The advantage of highlighting for dark hair is minimal damage from coloring compositions, since only selective strands are to be dyed. If you have too dark hair, you may not get the desired effect of bleaching strands after highlighting. Most often, dark strands have to be clarified before highlighting.

Toning will correct the color of the colored strands. However, this procedure will be effective only if the color of the paint used is the same as the color of the strands after highlighting. When choosing a tinting agent, it is important to take into account the peculiarities of the hair structure. Dramatically change the color on dark hair with toning will not succeed. You can only change the shade in this way.

Do I need tinting hair after highlighting?

Perform rendering after highlighting can be applied in several cases:

  • reduced contrast between dyed and native hair color. With the help of semi-permanent staining, you can soften the transitions, make the overall look of curls more natural.
  • Elimination of unsatisfactory staining results. In order not to expose the hair to repeated bleaching, which can adversely affect the condition of the hair shaft, semi-permanent pigments are used. They can neutralize yellowness, give the desired shade to hair, emphasize the depth of color.
  • Care for hair after dyeing. In the process of dyeing, the oxidizer neutralizes the natural pigment and "opens" the hair cuticle. This leads to the fact that the rod quickly loses moisture, the color is washed out, curls lose shine.

Anyone who wants to correct the results of dyeing or simply seeks to experiment in appearance can tint the hair. After highlighting with it you can get rid of yellowness, soften the effect of clarifiers on curls.

Required Tools

Usually in the kits for toning / coloring includes the necessary components.

To toned curls, except for them, requires a few more components:

  • actually paint itself. It can be tonic, mousse, foam, tinted shampoo or balsam.
  • Non-metallic capacity. It will be needed for mixing shades or making semi-permanent blend. Metal dishes in this case can not be used - the oxidizer reacts with it, which can lead to a completely unexpected shade.
  • Sponge or brush. If desired, you can apply the tone with your hands, but such an application does not guarantee that the color will "fall" evenly.
  • Hairbrush. Necessary for the formation of thin strands and combing hair.
  • Gloves. Help protect hands and nails from pigment.
  • Old towel. Necessary for drying hair after the procedure.
  • Old T-shirt. It will help to protect clothes from stains in case of accidental hit of paint.

Preparation for implementation

The key point in toning after highlighting is the selection of tools. Here it must be remembered that the clarified strands may react to the shade differently - it will be brighter. Pigment will be washed out from the highlighted hair more quickly, and therefore it is necessary to carefully select the composition itself: permanent and semi-permanent will give a more lasting effect.

Before you start, you should conduct an allergy test. To do this, a small amount of paint is applied on the back of the wrist - the skin is thin and sensitive. If redness and itching do not appear within 30 minutes, you can proceed directly to the staining process.

Carrying out the procedure

The coloring process takes place in several stages.

  1. Prepare the coloring composition according to the instructions. Mix with an oxidizing agent or balsam, depending on the type of product.
  2. Divide hair into parts. This will help to paint each area evenly, avoiding the appearance of areas with prolonged exposure to pigment.
  3. Starting from the back of the head, you need to separate a small strand. Any coloring, regardless of the durability of the coloring composition, begins at the back of the head. This will help avoid strong contrast between the strands near the face.
  4. Separating the hair into strands, carefully paint over each with a brush or sponge.
  5. After application, withstand the pigment on the head for the time specified in the instructions.
  6. Rinse off the hair with warm water. If unstable staining is used, without using shampoo. The use of persistent dyes requires the use of shampoo.
  7. Applying a balm or mask to “close” the hair scales.

How to tint dark, blond, ashy hair

All the tint means on the aggressiveness of the impact can be divided into gentle, intense and light. The most harmless are considered benign, as they contain useful impurities, vitamins. Before toning bleached hair should be prepared:

How to make beautiful hair tinting after coloring

It is necessary to strictly follow the instructions for use of the products, which are tinted after highlighting: the condition of the hair (wet or dry), the exposure time.

Warning: be sure to pre-test for allergies: put some paint on the inside of the wrist and incubate for 30 minutes. If there is no redness or itching, then proceed to the procedure.

Tinting of hair for highlighting is often done on the entire volume of hair (the product is applied on the entire head). The bleached locks get the necessary shade, and dark hair become brilliant and saturated. At the same time, the difference in tone looks harmonious and natural.

If the main color does not require improvement, and I want to minimize the negative impact as much as possible, then only clarified strands can be treated with a tonic. In this case, it is necessary to carefully select the color of the coloring agent so that the toned curls are not dissonant with the main unpainted mass.

Technique with frequent tinted highlighting: after how much "toning" is washed off

No matter how the manufacturers paint the harmlessness of their products, the coloring is still not complete. Therefore, highlighting and toning hair, even the most expensive colors of popular brands, require special care.

You can use the line of products for the care of industrial production - in this case, it is desirable that the masks, foams, mousses, balms belong to the same manufacturer: the one whose dye was used for toning.

It is clear that highlighting plus toning themselves are quite expensive, so not everyone has the opportunity (or desire) to spend money on care products. In this case, use the old proven popular methods: nourishing masks and home rinsing treat and restore hair better than patented means.

Attention: do not use oil in home care for tinted hair. Castor and burdock oils are often included in homemade masks - but they will contribute to the rapid washing off of the tonic.

Compliance with these simple recommendations will allow you to have health-shining hair of rich natural color of each lady.

Highlighting and toning for dark hair

Highlighting on dark hair with toning is great way change and refresh the usual image: add extra volume to the curls, emphasize the depth of color, mask gray hair. Highlighting creates a clear distinction between colored and uncolored strands. To change the contrast to a smoother transition, it is recommended toned curls. And on dark hair tinting will not be visible, the desired shade will remain only on the brightened strands. Also, toning will help get rid of unwanted yellowness.

Doing highlighting and toning hair in a beauty salon, it is likely that these two procedures will combine, as you want to fully complete the new image of the client. But such an action is undesirable, because the streaked strands need to be restored. Therefore, it is better to wait a few days, and in the process of waiting to make a regenerating mask for colored and damaged hair.

How and than toned hair?

There are three ways to tint: light, gentle and intense.

With easy way tinting applied foam and mousse. Toning substances are applied to the curls with a comb. This method is short-term, ideal for a party, as it lasts until the first wash of hair.

A gentle method of toning is carried out with the help of a tinted shampoo or balsam. This method is easy to apply at home. The tinting agent is applied to washed hair for 5–15 minutes, the time depends on the desired result. Then washed off with water. The color will gradually fade, after two weeks the procedure should be repeated.

With the intensive method of tinting used sparing paints. The method of application they have the same as that of conventional hair dye. The essential difference is that hydrogen peroxide and ammonia are not part of the paint. When using this method of toning the shade persists for a long time - about two months.

Home toning tips

  • Examine the tinting instructions. Different means and for different shades of hair exposure time may vary significantly.
  • Lubricate the neck, the skin at the hairline with a greasy cream. This makes it easy to wash off the dye.
  • Use gloves when tinting. This will protect the hands from staining.
  • Be sure to make a test for an allergic reaction.
  • If the shade is too pronounced, you need to wash the curls with shampoo.
  • Apply toning substances should be on wet, slightly dried hair. Otherwise water will flow from them.
  • To obtain a uniform coloring, after applying the tinting agent, it is necessary to comb the strands with a comb with frequent teeth.
  • At the end of the exposure to the dye, rinse the curls well under water without shampoo.

How to avoid undesirable results

A month before highlighting or tinting should not use henna. Coloring elements react with henna, and such a reaction will entail opposite effect and will not give the expected result.

It should be borne in mind that the brightened curls shade turns brighter, so it is different from the color declared by the manufacturer.

Toning products, with the exception of some paints for intensive toning, are not able to hide gray hair.

Coloring after highlighting

Highlighting, although it is considered a sparing procedure, but still the coloring matter has a damaging effect on the strands. Therefore, if staining is needed after an unfortunate highlighting process, it is better to wait for a break of at least two weeks. Before dyeing, hair should be treated with regenerating masks, because dyes for drying dye curls and make them brittle.

When choosing a dye, it is necessary to take into account that light tones will unevenly dye your hair, and you should first lighten dark strands before dyeing.

To clarify the curls in this case, there are three ways: natural remover, acid remover, decolorizing remover:

  • Natural washing can be easily applied at home. It is necessary to mix in the same proportions three types of oils: olive, sunflower and castor. Heat the mixture to room temperature and apply evenly on the strands for 30 minutes. To enhance the action head should be covered with a towel. Suitable for daily use.
  • Acid remover brightens the curls by 2 tones from the first time, does not contain hydrogen peroxide or ammonia, and thus is harmless to hair.
  • Bleaching remover brightens the hair on 4 tones at once. But at the same time it causes a significant injury to the hair - they subsequently need moisturizing and additional care. It is not recommended to start staining or rewashing before two weeks.

Restore color curls after highlighting is very difficult. Often you have to repaint in several stages, as dark colors hardly paint over the highlighted hair.

In order to minimally injure the hair, staining after highlighting is best left to a professional. At home, dry and brittle hair, as well as split ends will be guaranteed.

Curls after highlighting can not be painted with Basma or henna. Instead of the desired saturated bright color can get purple or green play on the head of hair.

Why tint bleached hair

In the basis of any method of mending is lightening, which, although gentle, but still not the best way affects the structure of the hair rods.

To reanimate the hair, make it shiny, well-groomed, more expressive, and the color of the curls - natural, Stylists invented toning after highlighting. The procedure is also called careful staining or color correction.

Not all dyes are suitable for its implementation, but only non-ammonia or tint. They are devoid of aggressive chemical components that spoil the hair, so do not penetrate inside and are fixed exclusively on the surface of the strands.

Because of this, the new color quickly fades and is washed out. But for girls who prefer to often change the shade of curls, this seems an undoubted advantage of the technique.

Highlighting and toning hair have a common characteristic: a careful effect on the hair. But this is achieved in different ways. In the case of lightening with bleaching chemical composition, no more than half of all strands on the head are treated.

Toning means can completely dye all the curls, giving them almost any shade and not being afraid to spoil their structure with a sparing non-ammonia preparation. Another feature that allows you to understand the difference between highlighting and toning is the frequency of the procedure. Tonics can be used 1–2 times a month, brightening compositions - 2 times less, and preferably not along the length of the hair, but only for the correction of the root zone.

By the way. Toning is performed both on melirovannye, and on natural strands. True, brown-haired women and brunettes who want to become even a little lighter will still need to pre-discolour.

There are 3 main types of toning. They differ in the means used to change the image, the degree of impact on the hair and the duration of the effect:

  • lung - curls change shade literally for several days, before the first or second washing of the head,
  • gentle - makes it possible to admire the bright color of hair up to 4 weeks,
  • intense - a kind of exception to the rule, because for him they take paint with ammonia. But the effect lasts about 2 months.

The main types of toning

Going to toned melirovanny hair, do not forget to get acquainted with the two main types of this procedure.

Ideal for damaged hair, acting on the structure is truly beneficial. Gentle toning is performed using shampoos, mousses and foams. Means can be applied with a brush or hands. They not only give the hair the desired shade, but also saturate them with a mass of useful substances that strengthen, give shine, silkiness, softness and glossy appearance. With this toning can take about 2 weeks.

Intense

Toning of this type involves the use of a special non-ammonium composition. The dye has a pleasant aroma, does not harm the health of the strands and contains moisturizing ingredients. In addition, such tools differ quite diverse palette with which you can dye both light and dark hair.

Many girls prefer to tint their hair at home, because it does not need any special knowledge. And to further facilitate this process, use these tips.

Tip 1.Carefully read the instructions on the package. The fact is that toning (method of application and exposure time) depends entirely on the product you use. As a rule, 15 minutes are enough for blondes and 25 minutes for brunettes.

Tip 2. If you overdo the product, rinse curls with shampoo. This will immediately reduce the intensity of the shade. If it is underexposed, the tone will turn out to be paler.

Tip 3. Having decided to tint the hair with paint, tonic, shampoo or any other means, do not forget to test for the presence of an allergic reaction. To do this, apply a minimum amount of the composition on the inner fold of the elbow or the back of the palm and wait a quarter of an hour. If during this time the skin does not appear redness or itching, feel free to apply it on the hair.

Tip 4. Hair for dyeing should not be wet, but wet. If water flows from them, blot with a towel.

Tip 5. Apply a toning agent is necessary in gloves - they will save the skin from staining hands.

Tip 6. In order to distribute the coloring composition evenly, carefully comb the curls with a frequent comb.

Tip 7. Wait for the right time. To enhance the effect, wear a warm cap on your head.

Tip 8. Now, tonic or paint should be thoroughly rinsed with warm running water without the use of shampoo. Rinse the hair until the flowing water is completely transparent.

Important! Remember toning can be done no earlier than 2-3 weeks after highlighting.

For more details on the rendering procedure, see this article.

Hair care

At the end of hair tinting after highlighting, learn how to properly care for hair. To do this, you will need balms, fluids and serums to care for colored hair. Not be superfluous and medical masks - they can be both purchased and homemade, made from affordable products. It is better that there are no vegetable oils in their composition - they accelerate the leaching of the coloring pigment and contribute to the restoration of the original color of the strands. And one more tip - try to wash your hair as little as possible, and with the first wash in general, wait 2-3 days. This will allow for longer to keep the cold tone and rich and bright.

Technique with frequent tinted highlighting: after how much “toning” is washed off

We determine the paint for tinting hair

It is necessary to determine in advance what kind of dyeing hair will be applied after clarification or highlighting.

Regular hair care allows you to keep the curls in a healthy and attractive form. To achieve this state, you must use a variety of cosmetics and drugs.

Sometimes you can hear the opinion that toning and coloring, in fact, are no different. However, this is not quite true.

The principle of the effect of dye on the hair is quite different compared to how it happens when toning.

Professional hairdressers and those people who are engaged in coloring of the house are aware of these subtleties.

Tinting or coloring

For any, even the weakest toning, the shade of the curls changes and the original hair color is enhanced. The color of the strands becomes saturated, bright and juicy.

In professional language, this procedure is called color correction. Hair care specialists, stylists and makeup artists recommend not to dye their curls, namely, to tint.

The fact is that when toning and when painted externally, the result is the same. However, the peculiarities of the process by which they achieve the desired shade are fundamentally different.

With intense staining, the dye penetrates the depth of the hair and replaces the natural pigment.

When toning is performed, the dye remains on the surface of the hair, without penetrating deep into. For toning or color correction used semi-permanent paint that does not contain ammonia.

Paints that contain ammonia, achieve a sustainable tone. But at the same time the condition of the hair deteriorates significantly. Deterioration occurs because their natural structure is disturbed.

When toning occurs only staining scales, which are located on the surface of the hair.

Such a soft effect gives the strands a smooth and healthy glow. They do not lose moisture and remain elastic.

If staining involves further hair care, then toning, in its essence, can be called a supporting procedure.

It changes the color of the strands, improves their condition and appearance. The surface effect of paint allows you to change the shades of curls in a short period of time without harm and damage to their health.

Toning of bleached hair is recommended to be performed immediately after bleaching. In this case, using tonic hair get exactly the color that was planned.

If left bleached hair without power and protection, they quickly thinned, dry and become brittle.

Which tonic to choose?

Exposure of curls with any coloring compositions disrupts the natural balance of hair.

Often, when dyeing strands at home, the rules for performing the procedure are not fully followed.

This leads to mediocre results.

In order to prevent such blunders, you need to know that toning is of the following type:

Intensive toning is made after the use of strong paints. In this case, it is necessary to replenish lost keratin in the hair structure.

For these purposes, special potent tonics with high keratin content are used. The color on the curls lasts almost two months.

When performing gentle toning, preparations are used, which include various useful additives.

In addition, tonics contain various vitamin complexes for nourishing hair.

As a result of such exposure, the curls become soft and docile, easy to comb and fit.

The resulting shade is kept on the hair for about a month. After this period, toning can be repeated.

If we talk about a light type of toning, it is used to maintain the resulting shade on the hair for a couple of weeks.

In this case, special tinted shampoos, sprays and mousses are used for the procedure.

How long will the effect last if toned strands?

The duration of the effect depends on the type of coloring agent:

  • Balsams and tonics begin to wash off from the next shampoo and keep for 2-3 weeks,
  • tinted shampoos give effect for 5-7 days,
  • semi-permanent dyes guarantee the safety of the result for 3-4 weeks,
  • permanent colors make it possible to fix the result for more than 1 month.

In the case of non-ammonia formulations, you can hold them on the hair a little longer than the specified period - this will give a more saturated color. Ammonia compounds require strict compliance with the instructions, so as not to cause damage to hair.

Than toned

The choice of means depends on how durable the result you want to achieve. Toning shampoo, spray, tonic, ammonia-free paint - any of these options has advantages and disadvantages. But you will have only positive experience from the use of the drug, if you correlate its purpose with your own goals.

Toning shampoo

It gives a shade a slight shade when washing your head. In this case, dramatically change the color, using a tinting shampoo for highlights hair, will not work.

It does not paint curls, but only makes their color more saturated. For this reason, it is not recommended to choose tones that are very different from the original shade of the hair.

If you use shampoo for toning the highlights of hair once a week (more often and not recommended), you will be able to get a cumulative effect, make the color a little brighter.

Otherwise, it will go away after a couple of shampooing procedures with a conventional means. There are also special compounds that help get rid of the yellow pigment in the hair.

Many popular manufacturers of cosmetics have in their lines tinting shampoo:

  • Tonic (Rocolor) offers a yellowing neutralizer (about 150 rubles), as well as 9 coloring agents from blond to chocolate (from 100 rubles per bottle).
  • Irida m - also a product of domestic production with an extensive palette from pearl to garnet and chestnut. Price - from 50–70 rubles per pack.
  • Life Color by Capus is washed out for a long time, in 4–8 procedures. Any of the 5 shades (sand, pomegranate red, copper, brown, purple) can be purchased for about 350 rubles.

Some companies specialize only in products for masking the yellowness of bleached strands. Such products are in Silver silk, Londa, Estel, Schwarzkopf and other companies. The cost is from 200–250 to 500 rubles.

Attention! Shampoo for toning hair highlights may contain sulfates, which often lead to dryness, brittleness, loss of strands.

Tinting balm, tonic

The shade is brighter than in the case of shampoo, and lasts up to a month. In fact, under the balm and tonic mean the same tint tool intended not only for coloring, but also for hair care. There are means to moisturize, add shine. Tonics can be ready and concentrated (need to be diluted).

Tinted balm for streaky hair offer these brands:

  • Concept, Fresh up tools Separately for light brown, copper, brown, red and black strands. They contain flaxseed oil, beeswax. Cost - from 400 rubles.
  • Life Color production Capus. Balms are available in the same 5 colors as tinting shampoos. The price of each - from 300 rubles.
  • Tonic - a product of domestic production with a fairly extensive palette (more than 30 shades, including for tinting gray hair). It costs from 100 rubles. You can familiarize yourself with the palette of tonic balsams Tonic on our website.
  • Estel produces 2 series of tonics: LOVE NUANCE with a keratin complex (17 tones) and SOLO TON with a mango extract and a UV filter (18 shades). Price - from 100 rubles.

Mousses, foams, sprays

If you want to temporarily tint bleached hair at home, choose an unstable spray. It is cleaned with regular shampoo after 1–3 procedures. Often, the drug is composed of a vitamin set, so at the same time caring for the curls. Spray is optimal for tinting individual straightened strands, as well as techniques shatush, ombre.

Mousses, foams are more long-lasting variants of products, which can be kept on the hair up to 8 procedures of washing the head.

Many manufacturers equip bottles with convenient dispensers, so you don’t even need to take a sponge or brush to tint. After application, it is recommended to wash off the remains, keeping the composition on the hair for a certain time.

Among the manufacturers producing such products is the company Schwarzkopf. In 16 natural shades presented mousse Igora Expert. With its help, it will be possible to add ashy, golden and other shades to the curls. It costs about 600 rubles. BlondMe spray is 4 colors (steel blue, ice, strawberry and jade) 700–800 rubles for each bottle. Enriched with vitamins, gives strands matte and strengthens them.

By the way. Also, some manufacturers offer tinted masks for curls (Cutrin), as well as mascara (Joyous, StarGazer) and crayons (Hot Huez, Hair Chalk) for partial and short-term toning of highlights. Reviews do not get confused in the variety of products.

Color selection

If you think why you need to carefully select the color for tinting, if it is already washed from the hair, then you are mistaken. Take time to experiment, so you do not regret the result. For test coloring the occipital locks are suitable. Apply a paint on them and make sure that the stated tone with the photo of the package corresponds to what you get on your curls.

Do not be surprised that the same color may look different on your and your girlfriend's heads. The point here is not only in the original color of the hair, but also in belonging to the color type. It can be warm (spring and autumn types) or cold (winter and summer). The unfortunate shade for toning after highlighting, dissonant with appearance, often spoils the whole impression of the image, emphasizes the shortcomings. To prevent this from happening, choose tones in accordance with the recommendations of experts.

For blond hair

Natural fair-haired beauties with a light shade usually refer to the color type “spring”, with ashen or dark - to “summer”. In the first case, such tones as sand, gold, honey, amber, chestnut, chocolate will do. In the second, ash gray, linen, pearl, platinum, nut coffee, plum are optimal for tinting.

For fair hair

Girls with light curls, white skin and blue eyes are perfect ashy, silver toning. Light blond, honey, golden blond, wheat will look good on such a head of hair. If the skin is prone to sunburn, then for tinting hair after highlighting it is worth making a choice in favor of warm tones (golden, caramel).

For dark, black hair

Pre-clarified dark strands can become warm, if the exterior is autumn type, or cold, if your type is winter. Pay attention to the cognac, caramel, golden, honey, amber, copper or red (especially if the hair with ryzhinka).

Brunettes can be protonated with a coffee-chocolate scale, bronze, chestnut, eggplant or mahogany color. In combination with black hair, light eyes and soft white skin, silver, gray, ashy tones look harmoniously.

How to tint hair after highlighting

If after highlighting a few days have passed, you can begin the process of toning. It is necessary to endure a break. Despite the gentle effects of both procedures, hair needs rest. It does not matter where your transformation takes place: in the salon or at home.

As a rule, toning after highlighting is done all over the head, and this partly resembles the coloring technique. You can also toned individual bleached strands, although the process is very labor intensive. Usually it is justified if you want to buy non-ammonia paint, spray and make bleached strands contrast (ashy on a black head of hair, red or red on chestnut and so on). In other cases, toning shampoo, balm applied to all hair.

Council Partial toning of streaked hair is important if you have done ombr, shatush, balayazh.

Before using any tool, check if it suits you. Apply a little on the back of your wrist or elbow. Wait at least 15-20 minutes, and best of all - 24 hours. You can be protonated with the purchased dye if you have not had an allergy (itching, redness, swelling, peeling).

The easiest way to shade the washed hair at home with a toning shampoo. It is necessary to distribute it on wet curls, lather, rinse. To color a little brighter, with rinsing the hair should wait 3-4 minutes. Spray and mousse are also applied to wetted strands, but the first drug, unlike the second, is not washed off.

Before applying the toner carefully read the instructions. The algorithm of action may differ from the general scheme of hair coloring.

If you chose tonic, tint balm or semi-permanent paint, focus on the following sequence of actions:

  1. Lightly moisten and comb the curls. Wash them no later than 2-3 days before tinting.
  2. Divide the hair into several parts (top, back of the head, whiskey), each fix with a barrette or clip.
  3. Lubricate the hairline with a greasy cream.
  4. Put on a waterproof cape or something from old clothes, as well as gloves.
  5. Prepare the composition: dilute according to the instructions or pour into a convenient container (if there is no dispenser on the bottle).
  6. Remove the hairpin from the back of the head. Divide hair into narrow strands or select only bleached curls.
  7. Paint them with a brush or sponge.
  8. Do the same with hair at the temples, then at the crown. For convenience, fix the painted parts with clips.
  9. Soak time recommended by the manufacturer of means for toning.
  10. Rinse with warm, and at the end cool water. Jets should be transparent.
  11. Step-by-step photos of the process and a master class on video will help you to correctly tint the highlights.

How to tint?

Any procedure for hair care is preferable to perform at the hairdresser.

With this statement, no one argues, but in real life to find time for regular visits to a beauty salon is difficult.

Daily practice shows that hair care can be performed in high quality at home.

Experts advise before any procedure to be performed on your own curls, be sure to evaluate the condition of the hair.

When strands are too fragile and weak, they should be treated. To eliminate this problem, there are various medicinal and stimulating drugs.

Currently remains fashionable highlighting of strands. Obligatory component of this procedure is the toning of the highlighted curls.

Having minimal experience in dyeing, toning the strands will not be difficult.

The first thing to do is choose a quality tonic. Carefully read the instructions for use and properly prepare.

Prepare suitable clothing that will protect the skin from paint. Then evenly apply paint to all hair or part of the strands that need to be toned.

After that, comb the curls with a comb and hold the composition on the hair for a certain period. And just rinse with running water.

Caring for tinted strands

Since toning, in essence, is a method of dyeing, the strands must be properly maintained.

In specialized stores of cosmetics there are always products for the care of colored strands. In this case, you need to use just such.

The easiest and most common way is reduced to the use of special balms, sprays and serums. It is necessary to pay attention to the quality of the drug.

It is advisable to buy the same balm or paint from a well-known brand in the company store. At home, you can use masks from natural materials.

At its core, toning is staining.

Despite the gentle treatment and hair makeup, this procedure should not be abused. With the help of toning can not lighten the curls.

Similarly, the use of tonic for painting gray strands is impossible. This method of painting in this case is not suitable.

On the hair of classic brown-haired women toning is simply imperceptible. These features must be remembered when choosing paint, tonic and other cosmetics.

How to toned the highlights in a cold shade, but so that the dark strands remain the same shade

Girls, the question is the same as the topic is called. Made highlights on dyed brown hair, now more than half of the head is streaked. Some locks are white, and some are unpleasant red or yellow. What paint would you recommend toned to get a pleasant pearl shade, or beige. But so that the dark strands remain the same color. Thanks in advance to everyone who will respond)

And what you tint balsams and shampoos are not pleased?

Across

I do not think that you will be able to somehow selectively dye your hair paint. Yes, and red paint is not painted over, the effect in any case is enough only until the first washing of the head. Damaged hair does not hold paint, and it is almost impossible to remove the red pigment, even your highlighting did not remove the red of chestnut dye which they were colored.
Blondes usually use yellow shampoos or ashy tonics for yellowing. But your dark hair can get blue with it.

Gaga

ohh, straight my topic! I have the same problem. made highlighting on dark hair. strands turned dirty yellow. I'll never know what to do with them. You can't find a good parikmakher in the afternoon with fire. the one that made me highlight, in my disillusionment, what, should I now do like this? you said come back in a month, I will once again glance to you aha thanks, a month with a shit on my head

Yellow hair is, of course, ugly, but even worse is the gray color, similar to gray hair, which for some reason is so loved by many women and called platinum.

Rumia

Girls, try prof. shampoos for blondes, with a purple pigment that remove yellowness. Apply like shampoo, foaming, hold for five minutes, rinse, look at the shade of the strands - they will gradually become less yellow, more platinum. If necessary, apply again and hold for 3-5 minutes. Dark hair will not change its color.

Most likely the wine is not paint, but mine, picked the wrong tone. The yellow locks were as yellow as they were, and the ones that were white acquired an ashy tint. Tinting on 1.5 oxide unfortunately also slightly brightens your hair. This is especially evident in daylight. There is such an option to take a professional paint if Estel then you can take 8.76 or 9.76 and a tube of 25-30ml. Add boiling water to brew it. And lubricate carefully the hair. for 2-5 minutes And wash off. Maybe take. It all depends on the structure of your hair.

Hair toning: a salon event or a simple home procedure? Is it possible to tint hair resistant paint? Answers to these and many other questions + of course, personal experience with PHOTO

Good day to all! Today I talk about the phenomenon of hair tinting - what it is, how it is performed, how it differs from resistant and other types of hair dyeing, whether it spoils the hair or treats, and much more.

My hair I dye almost all my adult life - from middle school. There was in my life both henna, and tonic, and palettes with garniers, and a lot of paint options for professional use.

For a long time I didn’t understand what staining was, chose paint at random, and then (which, as it turned out, was also not the best choice) for many years I trusted the craftsmen in the salons.

During this time I was both dark and blonde - and extremely “warm” and bleached.

But the closest thing to me is a cool beige or mother-of-pearl blond, which for some reason no master has ever been able to portray on my head, and which I have been creating myself for many years.

Once I choose a shade warmer, once - colder, and once - and porozovee.

So first of all What is toning?

Essentially toning is giving the hair a shade. That is, staining. And you can dye your hair in different ways depending on the type of dye.

1) Resistant paint

They contain ammonia (in the formulations - Ammonium Hydroxide), or derivatives (ethanolamine, monoethanolamine), or all together, and are able to paint over gray hair, and also lighten natural hair up to 4-5 levels depending on the oxide used (3%, 6%, 9%, or 12%).

By creating a strong alkaline environment during dyeing, such dyes are quite aggressive towards the skin and hair. regardless on whether there is in them ammoniaor used his substitute under the loud slogans "our paint is ammonia-free!"

Many masters use resistant paints for toning (including explaining the "harmlessness" of this process using a low percentage of oxide) - applying the composition to its entire length or "pulling" paint from the roots shortly before the exposure time expires.

Doing so is the path of least resistance for the master (no need to keep 2 or even 3 different lines of dyes, no need to process the hair twice), but this is guaranteed (albeit gradually) to kill the hair to an unrepairable state.

My thin and soft hair usually lacks one such “broach” to turn a decent blond into a dry bast, and a level lower in shade (hair due to damage to the structure reflects light worse and seems darker).

But the reverse transformation requires much more power and resources (in the photo before and after the course of keratin prosthetics L'anza, photos in identical conditions without flash, brush / iron and the use of additional funds).

The problem is that resistant dyes create a strong alkaline environment, and the oxide is needed only to balance the pH of the composition, to oxidize the natural pigments of the hair with the help of oxygen and to show pigments of the dye. With low percentages of oxygen oxide, little is released, respectively, paint pigments are deposited shallowly, and own pigment is affected a little (but it is nevertheless affected).

2) Demi-permanent colors

Work at less alkaline pH, rather than resistant paints, with oxides from 2% to 6%.

Ammonia, as a rule, does not contain, but its derivatives are used with might and main - Ethanolamine in particular.

They can paint up to 30-45% gray hair, less harm to hair than resistant dyes (due to the lower content of ammonia and its derivatives).

3) Temporary dyes (physical type)

This is a group of dyes that work either due to the mechanical “stuffing” of pigments under the hair cuticle (all types of “homemade” tinting products - tinted shampoos, balms, foams, as well as henna and basma), or due to the effect of adhesion - the attraction of molecules with different ion charge, i.e. acting on physical, rather than chemical principles.

4) Tinting paints

They do not contain ammonia or its derivatives, and the oxide to them, as a rule, is of only one type - with a percentage of peroxide of about 2%. This amount is only necessary in order to develop the artificial color pigments in the paint. Due to the low percentage of oxide and the absence of an alkaline component (ammonia or its substitutes), tint dyes are able to paint only a small gray hair and completely incapable lighten hair They are most careful to hair and therefore the shade of once-colored (bleached) hair is recommended to be supported by them.

I tried everything.

For a long time the master, whom I trusted, poisoned my hair with resistant “toning”, and I was all wondering why I was buying and buying expensive professional repair agents, and my hair was splitting and splitting.

Then there was a period of enthusiasm tinting shampoos and masks, because I thought that they were "without chemistry", which means that they would spoil the hair less.

Such means, contrary to popular belief, physically unable to lighten hair, they act by introducing color-correcting pigments into the hair structure (for a time, of course) (for blond hair, that is, for the yellow background, these are purple pigments).

These pigments, being applied to healthy hair, simply stick on top, but with damaged hair, on which the cuticle is “fluffed up”, they are stuffed under the cuticle, and prevent its scales from adhering tightly to the hair shaft.

As a result, hair quickly loses moisture and reflects light poorly.

At the same time, the correction of the shade can be elusive to the eye, the color can go gray, or it can go green.

For example - my hair after applying shampoo silver from L'oreal Professional (left) and after tint masks christophe robin (on right).

Demi-permanent I also tinted my hair with paints, but they decently dried damaged hair, especially with time, and some also gave unpredictable colors.

And before-after L'oreal Dialight:

Many brands in a series of demi-permanents create the most gentle dye options designed precisely for blond. They contain less ammonia derivatives than the "classic" demi line, but they still contain, which means that for the structure of the hair, this is the least harmful variant of the ones listed so far, but still not optimal.

And finally, the best option for imparting shades to hair, on which you do not need to paint over gray hair or drastically change the color, and which I prefer for all other ways to tint the blond, is the "true" tinting, which does not contain ammonia or its derivatives (even in minimum quantities).

For all the years of trial and throwing, I found only 2 such paints - Goldwell colorance and Paul Mitchell Shines (but it was re-released, and now it is also on ethanolamine).

It was after these dyes (with proper care, of course) that I managed to maintain the quality of the hair at a decent level for a very long time, and while I tinted my hair myself, everything was fine, and my hair was spoiled only in the salon.

To summarize

1) Toning is way to give shade hair, both natural and previously painted / bleached. The caution of this process and whether toning affects the color of natural hair directly depends from the composition used dye.

2) Toning cannot be cured hair, it does not moisturize, does not nourish and does not restore them. The composition of such funds for this is simply not calculated. Toning only introduces additional pigments into the hair, which in their structure by nature and no more than a percent. Accordingly, something there to “strengthen” with pigments is simply ridiculous.

3) Toning (and even carried out by the rules, I'm not talking about violations of technology) can damage hair, and some of its types (for example, broach the lightening composition of 6-9-12%) - do it quickly and with a guarantee.

4) In the procedure of rendering no big deal (mixed oxide and paint, applied, washed), and it’s not necessary to give a decent (and sometimes simply unthinkable) salon price tag. I gave detailed staining instructions in reviews for specific dyes.

5) Temporary dyes in the form of "tonic", shampoos and masks, despite the fact that they act according to the laws of physics, not chemistry, leave hair in a very unattractive condition, which not good their health.

5) From quality and toning composition hair does not suffer, and it is possible to carry out the procedure of toning calmly once in 2-3-4 weeks as needed. I have been tinted every 2-3 weeks for many years.

6) Very often normal toning (as a rule, colorless demi-permanent paint) sold under the guise of "shielding", glazing (glazing), curing, lamination, God still knows some kind of glossing and other marketing twists.

In this case, before toning, some kind of Masochka is applied to your hair, and sometimes a mask / conditioner is added directly to the mixture of dye and oxide. There are no more differences from toning in 99% of cases in these procedures.

Final opinion

With proper choice of dyeing product, toning is a great way with minimal hair loss to give them an additional color nuance, adjust unwanted undertones or paint over the first gray hairs.

This is not as difficult as it seems at first glance, and it is quite possible for everyone.

How to avoid unsuccessful staining: basic tips

  1. Carefully choose a remedy. Read reviews, evaluate the palette, check expiration dates - the final result directly depends on it.
  2. Follow the instructions. Failure to follow instructions may result in unexpected effects.
  3. Get help. If it is impossible to apply the paint evenly, it is better to ask someone to help.
  4. Do not ignore further care. The longer the hair cuticle will be closed, the more lively and shiny the curls will be.

Independently carry out toning after highlighting is quite possible at home. Proper selection of colors and precise execution of the instructions will help bring your haircut closer to the desired result.
